A temple you have to visit many times.

You shall be a part of so many weddings.      

If you are lucky you shall witness the scene of Lord Yama being chastised by Lord Shiva.

 

Sights and Sounds of Velankanni Matha Temple (!)

 Without any expectation, we reached Velankannai Matha temple, a work of art by itself; grand, magnificent and so many other adjectives rushed into the mind. Watch for yourself.

Surprises were in store when I came out of the temple as we started walking out of the temple towards the beach!

We were wondering whether we were in Velankanni or in Palani. Watch the board.

The shops, the shoppers, the sight and the sound that resembled any Hindu temple surprised us.

The beach and the crowd had more surprises that included the fish stalls.

 The sea was so calm that children build castles in sand; watch the children playing so merrily: was this the sea that mercilessly killed thousands of people?

We had an opportunity to visit an ancient (said to be 1000 years old) Shiva temple in a small town, Paramakudi, in Tamilnadu.

Sri Emaneswaram Udayar Temple, Emaneswaram-623 701, Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram district.

 There was a surprise.

I had never seen anywhere a picture of LORD SHIVA as a CHILD!

But, it is sad that such a wonderful temple is in a sad state of neglect.

KANCHIPURAM

Recently, I visited Kanchipuram Kamatchi Amman temple. It was crowded. The queue was long winding. Beggars were freely roaming around in the 'prakaras'. The 'Theppam' looked very dirty. The electrical wires criss-crossing spoiled the view of the beautiful 'gopurams'. 

But, the long wait and the disappointment disappaeared as we entered the temple; the mind set at "PEACE", when we had the darshan of Kamatchi Amman temple. 

On way, as we were crossing a small town named ‘Vandavasi’, we saw a beautiful hillock, with a ‘Murugan Temple’ on top.

As we were returning from Dharmasthala, the tempo driver (who is a local person) stopped us in a an excellently and aesthetically built Ram Temple. Next when you are on a tour to South Canara temples, do not miss this visit.

Madurai, Vandiyur Theppakulam, a beauty on its own. You should be lucky to watch it on the full moonlit glory. Beutifully built and lit THEPPAM (FLOAT) ready to take Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareshwarar around the tank.

Watch people feeding fish in the near that runs adjacent to the temple. It is a delight.
